ESG Strategy & Impact
From Commitments to Measurable Action
At Active Zone Outdoor, we believe that sustainability requires more than statements of intent. It requires clear objectives, practical actions, continuous evaluation and accountability.
We are developing an Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) framework to help us systematically assess our activities, identify areas for improvement and strengthen our contribution to people, communities and the natural environment.
Our objective is to progressively integrate ESG principles into our organisational planning, programme development, operational procedures and partnerships.
Our ESG Development Framework
Our strategy is structured around five stages.
1. Reviewing Our Current Practices
We aim to assess our existing activities, projects and organisational procedures to identify how they contribute to environmental sustainability, social inclusion and responsible governance.
This assessment will consider environmental impacts, accessibility, affordability, participation, safety, organisational policies and stakeholder engagement.
The findings will help us identify strengths, gaps and areas requiring further action.
2. Engaging Our Stakeholders
Meaningful sustainability requires an understanding of the people and communities affected by our work.
We aim to engage employees, volunteers, participants, people with disabilities, young people, community organisations, educational institutions, corporate partners and other relevant stakeholders.
Their feedback will help us identify priorities, improve programme accessibility and develop more responsive organisational practices.
3. Establishing ESG Objectives
Based on our assessments and stakeholder engagement, we intend to establish measurable objectives across our three ESG pillars.
Our strategic priorities include:
Environmental
- Progressively assessing the environmental impact of all sports and outdoor activities.
- Developing environmentally oriented projects and educational initiatives.
- Expanding environmental education opportunities for children and young people.
- Reducing waste and encouraging responsible resource consumption.
- Supporting biodiversity protection and sustainable outdoor recreation.
Social
- Increasing access to free or affordable outdoor activities.
- Expanding adapted and inclusive sports opportunities for people with disabilities.
- Prioritising young people with fewer opportunities.
- Encouraging women's and girls' participation in sports.
- Strengthening volunteering, intergenerational inclusion and community engagement.
Governance
- Strengthening transparency and organisational accountability.
- Promoting gender equality and equal opportunities in organisational management.
- Improving safeguarding, safety and risk management procedures.
- Supporting responsible financial and project management.
- Developing systematic monitoring, evaluation and stakeholder feedback procedures.
Measuring Our Progress
We intend to develop an ESG monitoring system based on relevant, practical and measurable indicators.
| ESG Area | Proposed Performance Indicator |
|---|---|
| Environment | Percentage of activities assessed for environmental impact |
| Environment | Number of environmentally oriented projects |
| Environment | Number of children and young people reached through environmental education |
| Environment | Environmental improvement actions implemented |
| Social | Percentage of activities provided free or at reduced cost |
| Social | Participation of people with disabilities |
| Social | Participation of young people with fewer opportunities |
| Social | Participation of women and girls in sports |
| Social | Volunteer participation and hours contributed |
| Governance | Organisational policies developed and reviewed |
| Governance | Staff and volunteer training on safety, safeguarding and inclusion |
| Governance | Completion of relevant activity risk assessments |
| Governance | Stakeholder feedback and improvement actions |
These are proposed indicators for our developing framework. Baseline data, specific targets and reporting arrangements will be established as the strategy progresses.
Integrating ESG into Our Daily Operations
We aim to ensure that ESG considerations progressively become part of our regular organisational processes.
This includes incorporating environmental impact considerations into sports activity planning, accessibility into programme design, equal opportunities into organisational management and appropriate safety procedures into activity delivery.
We also aim to encourage our partners, suppliers, staff and volunteers to contribute to these commitments.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting
We intend to develop a practical monitoring and reporting approach that enables us to review progress, identify challenges and communicate outcomes.
Our approach will prioritise accurate information, realistic objectives and transparent communication.
As our ESG framework develops, we aim to publish periodic updates on our environmental and social activities, organisational improvements and progress towards established targets.
We recognise that ESG development is an ongoing process requiring learning, adaptation and continuous improvement.
Alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals
Our ESG Strategy is informed by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, with particular relevance to:
- SDG 3 — Good Health and Well-being
- SDG 4 — Quality Education
- SDG 5 — Gender Equality
- SDG 8 — Decent Work and Economic Growth
- SDG 10 — Reduced Inequalities
- SDG 11 — Sustainable Cities and Communities
- SDG 12 — Responsible Consumption and Production
- SDG 13 — Climate Action
- SDG 15 — Life on Land
- SDG 17 — Partnerships for the Goals
These goals provide a broader framework for understanding how our activities can contribute to sustainable development.
Partnerships and Collective Impact
We believe that collaboration is essential for achieving meaningful and lasting environmental and social outcomes.
We welcome cooperation with companies, municipalities, educational institutions, sports organisations, environmental groups and civil society organisations.
Through partnerships, we aim to develop initiatives that combine environmental responsibility, social inclusion, education, volunteering and community participation.
We also seek to support organisations interested in contributing to sustainability and social responsibility through practical outdoor and community-based activities.
Looking Ahead
Our long-term ambition is to establish a structured, measurable and continuously improving ESG framework that reflects the mission and values of Active Zone Outdoor.
We aim to ensure that our growth is accompanied by stronger environmental responsibility, wider social inclusion and responsible organisational governance.
As our strategy develops, we will continue identifying opportunities to improve our practices, strengthen partnerships and expand our positive contribution.
