Environmental Responsibility

Protecting Nature Through Sustainable Sports, Education and Action

At Active Zone Outdoor, nature is not simply the setting for our activities. It is an essential resource that supports physical wellbeing, learning, recreation and community life.

We recognise that outdoor sports and recreational activities can affect the environment through transportation, waste generation, resource consumption and interaction with natural ecosystems.

Our environmental responsibility is based on promoting sustainable practices, reducing negative environmental impacts and developing initiatives that encourage people to protect the natural world.

Our Environmental Priorities

1. Environmentally Oriented Projects

We design, develop and implement local, national and European projects that promote environmental sustainability and responsible interaction with nature.

Our areas of interest include biodiversity conservation, climate change awareness, sustainable outdoor recreation, environmental protection and community-based environmental action.

Through cooperation with educational institutions, environmental organisations, public authorities and other stakeholders, we aim to transform environmental knowledge into practical actions that benefit communities and ecosystems.

2. Environmental Impact Assessment of Sports Activities

We are working towards integrating environmental impact assessments into the planning and implementation of all sports and outdoor activities organised by AZO.

Our approach will consider:

  • Transportation and participant mobility.
  • Energy and natural resource consumption.
  • Waste generation and management.
  • Greenhouse gas emissions where measurable.
  • Use of sports equipment and materials.
  • Potential disturbance to wildlife, habitats and natural ecosystems.
  • Opportunities for prevention, mitigation and improvement.

The objective is to progressively develop practical assessment procedures that support environmentally responsible decision-making before, during and after activities.

3. Environmental Education From an Early Age

We believe that environmental responsibility begins with education.

Through experiential learning and outdoor activities, we aim to introduce children and young people to environmental protection from an early age.

Our educational approach encourages participants to understand natural ecosystems, recognise environmental challenges and develop everyday habits that support sustainability.

Activities may include nature exploration, biodiversity observation, environmental games, outdoor workshops, waste reduction initiatives and community environmental actions.

By combining learning with direct experiences in nature, we aim to develop long-term environmental awareness and responsible behaviour.

4. Sustainable Sports and Outdoor Events

We aim to integrate environmental considerations into the design and delivery of sports events, recreational programmes and outdoor experiences.

Our priorities include reducing unnecessary waste, encouraging reusable equipment, selecting appropriate activity locations, promoting responsible participant behaviour and minimising disturbance to natural environments.

We also seek to encourage participants, staff, volunteers and partners to contribute to more sustainable event practices.

5. Biodiversity and Ecosystem Protection

Outdoor activities create opportunities for people to develop a stronger connection with nature and understand the importance of protecting biodiversity.

We support educational and community initiatives that encourage the protection of forests, coastal environments, wildlife and other natural ecosystems.

Our approach promotes respect for natural habitats, responsible use of outdoor spaces and cooperation with organisations involved in environmental conservation.

6. Resource Efficiency and Waste Reduction

We aim to reduce the environmental footprint of our operations by encouraging responsible resource management.

This includes reducing single-use materials, promoting reuse and recycling, maintaining equipment responsibly and limiting unnecessary consumption.

Where feasible, we also encourage shared transportation and more sustainable mobility options.

Measuring Our Environmental Progress

As our ESG framework develops, we intend to monitor indicators such as:

  • Number of environmentally oriented projects implemented.
  • Percentage of sports and outdoor activities assessed for environmental impact.
  • Number of children and young people participating in environmental education.
  • Number of environmental protection and community actions.
  • Waste reduction and resource efficiency measures introduced.
  • Environmental improvements identified and implemented following activity assessments.

These indicators will help us evaluate progress and establish realistic improvement targets.

Working Together for the Environment

We welcome collaboration with organisations, schools, municipalities, companies and community groups interested in environmental education, sustainable sports and conservation initiatives.

Through partnerships, we aim to increase environmental awareness and create opportunities for practical action.

Protecting nature is a shared responsibility. At Active Zone Outdoor, we aim to make it part of every outdoor experience.
