Sail Wise project
About
The Sail Wise project aims to increase the participation of women in sailing and support the sport's overall growth and development. The under-representation of women in sailing is a pervasive issue that stems from societal expectations and biased attitudes towards gender roles in the sport. Despite progress being made, women still face significant barriers in establishing confidence and earning respect, which affects not only their opportunities to sail but also how they are treated on the water.
Objectives:
-
Promote inclusivity and gender equity within the sport.
-
Create a welcoming and supportive environment that inspires a sense of community and inclusion among aspiring sailors.
-
Increase female participation in sailing.
-
Reduce high dropout rates and build sustainable sailing skills.
-
Enhance representation of women in communications and marketing highlighting opportunities, achievements and benefits of increased participation for women and girls.
The target audience:
Women between the ages of 25 and 45, each with its unique set of needs and motivations. The project caters to three distinct groups of women:
-
Women who have already passed the skipper course but are struggling to find opportunities to join a crew and hone their sailing skills.
-
Women who are interested in learning how to sail but do not have access to sailing clubs or communities of female sailors.
-
Women who have already experienced recreational sailing and are passionate about watersports and sailing.
Approach:
The Sailing Sisters project will utilize a two-pronged approach to achieve its objectives. On the one hand, it will focus on developing tailored training programs for women within each target group with a focus on building sustainable sailing skills. On the other hand, it aims to create supportive female sailing.
